Monthly Super Star Essay and Art Contest

 

As part of our Art and Essay Contest, each student is required to write a 200-word essay and create an accompanying art piece on a specific topic. The winners of the contest will receive a special gift and will have their name and picture featured on our website and social media flyers. It is imperative that all essays and art pieces be submitted by the deadline date. To submit entries, please email both the essay and art piece to the following email address: safediversity@gmail.com. We encourage all participants to put forth their best effort and showcase their creativity and talent through this contest.

JANUARY AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: What is your New Year’s Resolution for 2025? What are a few things that will help you to achieve your 2025 goals?

2. Environmental and Climate Justice:
Research What is TCEQ?

Art: Draw a picture of yourself completing 2025 goals.

FEBRUARY AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: What was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. doing when he was assassinated supporting sanitary waste management workers?

2. Environmental and Climate Justice: Who is your favorite environmental famous black hero? (Hint: one of them lives in Houston)

Art: Draw a picture of your favorite black history hero.

MARCH AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: How does environmental justice affect people with Multiple Sclerosis, developmental disabilities, Myeloma, Colon Cancer, or Kidney Disease?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: Write a 200-word essay on:  What is the Texas Center for Justice and Equity?

Art: Draw a picture of Reflections on Women’s History.

APRIL AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: How does cyber bullying affect someone with
autism or anxiety and depression?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: How does environmental and climate justice affect youth and family hidden mental health?

Art: Draw a picture of an Autism child and family.

MAY AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: How does depression affect a person with Minority Mental Health?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: Research: How do environmental and climate injustices affect a person with high blood pressure?

Art: Create an art image with Lupus Awareness, Celiac Disease, or Skin Cancer.

JUNE AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: How does a senior citizen with Alzheimer’s, Men’s Health, Migraine Headaches, or Scoliosis affect a family’s everyday life?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: What does environmental EPA stand for?

Art: Create an image on U.S. Veterans returning home with PTSD.

JULY AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: What are your College Goals and your plans for the next four years?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: How can environmental scholarship funds help you in your college career?

Art: Create a vision board of you graduating from college in the next four years.

AUGUST AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: Write an essay about your checklist for preparing to go off to school or college.

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: How important it is to study environmental and climate injustice while in college?

Art: Create an art image of Healthy Vision.

SEPTEMBER AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: How can the 988 number help a person with suicide ideation and give them hope?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: How can an old underground gas storage tank release dangerous toxic gas smells that affect young and elderly health?

Art: Create an art image on Suicide Awareness Prevention.

OCTOBER AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay:

1. Essay: What is Breast Cancer Awareness?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: What is the national black environmental justice network?

Art: Create an art of Breast Cancer Awareness.

NOVEMBER AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: How can you help keep the air in your community clean?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: November is clean air month and what does Air Alliance Houston does for the community?

Art: Draw a picture of your family having Thanksgiving Dinner together.

DECEMBER AWARENESS

Write a 200-word essay.

1. Essay: What does it mean to you to share gifts with your family and friends at Christmas?

2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay:
What are the most significant agricultural problems caused by climate change?

Art: Create an art on giving presents to a less fortunate family at Christmas.

REMINDER

1. Remember on the top center of page add S.A.F.E. Communities Logo
2. Add your essay topic in the center of the page.
3. Left side of the paper (first initial and last name
4. Left side of page the name of your school and your grade
5. Left side of page your email and phone number
6. On the right side of the paper your headshot (white background)

8. Remember it is a criteria that High School and College  ambassadors must promote the Logo and flyers on all their social media platforms.
